Just slap on a new label and call it good

Well, now that the work week is done and I'm in my comfy chair once again, I have some time to ruminate over the latest Young Justice news. While I left a short comment with my immediate thoughts on Scans Daily, here's a more expanded version.
First of all, the upcoming Young Justice animated series is Young Justice in name only. The characters are Teen Titans, except for TokenLad. He reminds me of Spike from X-Men Evolution. Why, oh why, couldn't they take a character like Empress or Natasha Irons to fill their diversity quota? Or Jaime Reyes? But then again, Jaime is fun and, while Young Justice does fun, Teen Titans does not.
Part of this direction for the show may also be that Teen Titans isn't doing well in sales. At this point in sales terms, Young Justice ended up on the chopping block. YJ also didn't have nearly the amount of marketing and brand awareness that Teen Titans has enjoyed. It wasn't until the age of the blog that YJ gained a serious following, simply because no one knew about it. Marketing FAIL. So, if TT is doing that poorly with all the backing it has, that isn't a good sign and something needs to be done to revitalize the franchise. I'd say get better stories and ditch the angst, but that's asking a bit much these days. So, it's make a new cartoon of the same old same old and slap the YJ name on it. Yes, I know that the show hasn't aired yet, but trends are trends and I've long ago learned to look behind the curtain. With DC, it isn't as much about the stories and characters as it is about the editors and pet writers and PTB. Sad, but true. Marvel isn't much better.
So, it comes down to jaded Randomality is jaded and the spite muse got some fresh spite. I had seriously hoped that the show would be YOUNG JUSTICE and I could put the spite muse away for a while, but with Johns at the helm instead of Timm or somebody fresh who actually knows about and gives a crap about YJ, I kinda expected it to disappoint. The DC PTB crew know what they like. I just don't share the same taste.
