In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.

The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.

Several significant elections are taking place in the US foday. As with all opportuniies to influence local and national events, we strongly encourage you to exercise your democratic rights. Such things are vital, perhaps moreso than ever.

Miraculous Ladybug introduced two new elements. The first was, someone who is celarly destined to become the wealthiest person in Paris; the therapist who various Miraculous Holders visit in their civilian ID's: Max for his (now confirmed) autism, Mylene for her anxiety, Juleka and Alya for their separate family issues, and so on and, in a move guaranteed to pay for at least three kids going through college, Adrien about his daddy issues.

The second was the first planned spin off series, Stellar Force, a combination of Kyuranger, Saint Seiya and Miraculous.

(Incidentally, it may be that the Super Sentai series of annually rebranded, colour-coded, spandex-clad (distantly hears "IT IS NOT SPANDEX!" in Dr K's voice... sorry, deep cut) heroes is coming to an end in early 2026 with the finale of it's 50th team, though it may also be that it is instead rebranding. Details are still unclear on that)

A couple of stories from London's West End;

Paddington: The Musical premiered at the weekend, and the producers finally revealed what their on stage Paddington looks like and he's quite an extraordinary creation. A little person actor wear performs the character on stage, and a second performer offstage provides the voice and puppets the animatronic facial expressions.

And for those attending the Halloween evening performance of Disney's Hercules musical, they got something of a surprise... their two act performance had THREE acts. After the show proper ended, there was a surprise appearance on stage by Susan Egan, the original Meg from the 1997 film, who duetted on "I Won't Say I'm in Love" with the current stage Meg Mae Ann Jorolan, followed by various members of the cast all singing classic villain songs from other Alan Menken scored films

This funny Joker comic hit the market on the same day as The Killing Joke. I can’t emphasize that enough.

And that’s not even the most baffling thing about it.

Issue #3'd ended on Birdie realizing that her friend Wilson was also in danger from the VR game Nightmare Cemetery.

Her brother Pik was in a coma, mentally taken into the game by the " King of Sleep ". The King'd shoved one of his claws through her friend Enid's left eye while she was helping look for Pik.

Wilson had also been helping her - they'd both taken sleeping pills to get around the hard time-limit on their Dreamwaves, expecting to be able to wake each other up.

But she wasn't able to wake him. She was grounded by her worried and frustrated dad, able only to watch videos about other victims of Nightmare Cemetery.

She found someone else who'd lost a sibling. )

It's been almost a decade since this was last posted so for Halloween here is one of Junji Ito's most famous horror stories.

Something spooky for Halloween as Chamber has a face off (heh) with old school Marvel Dracula.

Spooky story is by Joseph Harris with spookier art by Tomm Coker.

12 and a chunk pages out of 40.

Last time out, we showcased Fire and Ice Green Flame and Ice Maiden as two heroines who spend a night living beyond their means and a morning struggling to make ends meet. In this, they have more in common with an extragalactic starship and its crew than they could imagine.

Nobody ever talks about the COST of maintaining moon-sized ships, but if the Galactic Empire had managed its spending better, its Death Stars might not have so many corridors full of bottomless pits to fall into. )

Issue #2'd ended on physical trauma - Enid, one of three going deeper into the VR game Nightmare Cemetery, getting stabbed in the eye.

It was an in-game injury, inflicted by the same thing that'd taken her friend Birdie's brother Pik. He was comatose in the real world - she, waking into it, was bleeding.

Birdie and their friend Wilson saw her the next day.

" Wow.. what the fuck..? " )

As this JLI retrospective has chugged along, I've done my best to provide some context. But this time, the context is so involved, I figured I should make a separate post that's all context.

For its first four issues, the Justice League/Justice League International series was at a Bechdel 1. Then female villains stopped appearing and Doctor Light stormed out, putting it at a Bechdel 0...until #12, when two new characters rocketed it to Bechdel 3--where it would remain, more often than not, for as long as they were part of the series.

Also from 2 nations represented up to 4. )

Imperial #4 came out this week, so we're about halfway... wait, the event is over? At only four issues? Is that even allowed?
